Salman Khan 19 Floor Hotel: Bollywood celebrities have long been attracted to Mumbai’s thriving real estate market as a secure investment option for their considerable wealth. Among them is the popular heartthrob Salman Khan, whose family is now planning to venture into the hospitality industry by constructing a luxurious hotel on a prime sea-facing plot in Bandra’s Carter Road, according to sources.
Recent documents obtained from the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) reveal the approved building plans for a 19-storey hotel on the property. Initially, the Khans had purchased apartments in the residential Starlet CHS with intentions of redeveloping the site into a residential building. However, it appears that their plans have changed, and now they are focusing on developing a hotel instead. The proposal for the hotel construction was submitted over a year ago, with the property listed under the name of Salman’s mother, Salma Khan.
The architectural firm handling the project, Sapre & Associates, has submitted a revised plan in accordance with Mumbai’s Development Control & Promotion Regulation (DCPR-2034). The plan details a commercial centrally air-conditioned building with a height of 69.90 meters. The hotel will encompass three basement levels, a café and restaurant on the first and second floors, a gymnasium and swimming pool on the third floor, a service floor on the fourth, a convention center spanning the fifth and sixth floors, and hotel rooms from the seventh to nineteenth floors.
When contacted for a comment, a spokesperson for Salman Khan (Salman Khan 19 Floor Hotel) stated that they would need to verify the details with the actor’s office before providing a response.
The allure of Mumbai’s real estate market extends beyond Salman Khan’s family. Many other Bollywood personalities have made substantial investments in the city’s property sector. One such example is action hero John Abraham, who acquired a prime plot at Union Park in 2009. However, there are currently no immediate plans for development on that particular site. Another notable investor is actor Hrithik Roshan, along with his father Rakesh Roshan, who have acquired luxury apartments in prime locations throughout the city. In 2020, Hrithik Roshan purchased three floors in a residential tower on the Juhu-Versova link road for approximately Rs 100 crore. Additionally, the Roshans have made significant investments in commercial properties, primarily in the western suburbs.
Earlier this year, the legal heirs of the late Bollywood legend Raj Kapoor sold his one-acre bungalow property in Chembur for Rs 100 crore. The property was acquired by Godrej Properties, which also purchased the iconic R K Studios previously owned by the Kapoor family.
Renowned director and screenwriter Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, known for films like “Rang de Basanti” and “Bhag Milkha Bhag,” resides in the upscale residential enclave of Pali Hill. He commutes to his office/studio, located in a refurbished, nearly century-old bungalow in Pali Village. Recently, Mehra declined an offer to add more floors to his property, preferring to retain its original charm. The bungalow was purchased from a Catholic family in Pali Village, which still maintains its urban village ambiance despite the encroachment of illegal constructions and new high-rise buildings.
Notably, actor Ajay Devgn also made a significant real estate investment by acquiring a 474.4 sq m bungalow in Juhu for Rs 47.5 crore two years ago.
